We were by no means poltergeists or grade A exterminators, but we could get rid of a rat or small animal if it appeared in your basement. The house we were called to that day is one that I will never forget. My father and I had our own extermination business to help good citizens with pest problems. We were called upon one day by an old man who said there was something rustling in the basement and he was in too much pain to walk down there to see what was making that noise.
We entered the basement and searched for a good half an hour through all of the thick nests of cobwebs and spiders. And by thick nests, I mean you would probably need heavy duty shears to cut through these things, but Im sure the spiders werent the pest problem we were called to do because spiders are simply too easy of a problem to get rid of and too small to be making that much ruckus.
We were about to give up our search for this invisible creature when we finally heard a noise behind us that caught our attention. Instantly we knew right where to look because two small rays of light shone out of a small cubbyhole in the wall. Instinctively thinking it was someone stuck in there unable to talk trying to get help, we rushed over, but what we found was no child or human for that matter.
What we saw was something we couldnt really explain at all really. A shadow with lights for eyes, shining about the floor around it, searching for something was resting in here. This was something we werent prepared for, but were ready to take up that challenge. The creature, whatever it may be, needed to be removed before it caused any harm to anyone, so we got right to work. I grabbed the rifle from the car just in case something went wrong and stood on the stairwell near the cubbyhole with my aim right on the beast that lurked within. My father was trying to lure it out with all sorts of devices like flashlights, noises, or by trying to irritate it. Nothing was working so he grabbed an old Halloween wig that was down there and put it on, dangling it in front of the cubbyhole, tempting it.
When it didnt buy the gag, we thought we would just go and get the police to get it out, but as my father got up to walk away, the creature lunged forward and sunk its teeth into his leg. I immediately started firing, debris from the beast flew all over the basement, but the grip on his leg was held. I panicked and tried to pull him out, but watched in horror as the beast slowly digested him.
Seeing there was no way I could save him, I ran for the door, but just as I reached it, it slammed shut and locked. I started screaming for help as I saw the creature reach the bottom of the steps. The sides of my vision started to blur as I fell to my awaited death as if by some magic I was carried down there to his waiting jaws.
Thats all that was heard of my father and I. Nobody quite knew what happened. Nobody ever found our bodies or the creature for as long as time went on.
